1. I(t) feels very awkward, doesn’(t) i(t) ? So, what do we do? Now, a couple of you probably like watching somebody suffer. Okay? Bu(t), most of us don’(t). So, what do we do? We si(t) there, we nod and we smile? Or we disengage? Fundamentally, you job as a communicator, regardless of if it’s planned or spontaneous, is to make your audience comfortable. And when I say comfortable, I’m no(t) referring to the fac(t) tha(t)…tha(t) your message has to be nice for them to hear. I(t) can be a harsh message, bu(t) they have to be in a place where they can receive i(t).
2. I love i(t)! I teach people to gesture and gesture big. It’s grea(t)! I love i(t).
3. I mean, if you’re afraid to fly, that’s gonna limi(t) your ability to travel and see the world or go visi(t) friends. If you’re afraid of public speaking, that’s gonna really limi(t) our ability to express yourself.
4. Your hear(t) races, you migh(t) sweat a little bi(t). You migh(t) feel tightening in your chest, you migh(t) feel a pi(t) in your stomach.

It’s basically the way tha(t) your body goes into a hyper-aware sta(t)e because it’s readying for action
5. So, if somebody says, ‘That’s a ridiculous idea! Why did you come up with tha(t)?’ Acknowledge the emotion. I recommend no(t) naming the emotion. I say something like, ‘I hear you have a lot of passion on this issue’ or, ‘I hear there’s a grea(t) concern from you.’ So, you acknowledge the emotion. Cause otherwise, it’s seats in the room.

And then reframe the respond the way that makes sense. So, if somebody raises their hand and says, ‘Your produc(t) is ridiculously priced. Why do you charge so much?’ I migh(t) say, ‘I hear a grea(t) concern and what you’re really asking abou(t) is the value of our produc(t). So, you answer the question abou(t) price but you’ve reframed i(t) in a way tha(t) you feel more comfortable answering i(t).
6. Here’s a trick that’s proven by science that I use every time I speak. When I star(t) to swea(t), when I star(t) to have butterflies, when I star(t) to have my hear(t) race, I say I’m excited. I’m excited to get ou(t) there. I’m excited to talk to these people.

7. The first reason tha(t) you’re locked in a cycle of defensive failures tha(t) you think somewhere in your hear(t) tha(t) you can’t do i(t).
8. Regardless of wha(t) your governmen(t) decides, the bes(t) way to preven(t) food waste is to ea(t) wha(t) you buy! And don’(t) forge(t) tha(t) your eyes, nose, and tongue are usually all you need to decide if food is fi(t) for consumption or the compost bin.
9. Although people love to poin(t) ou(t) these days how unique and individual or differen(t) we all are. The fac(t) remains tha(t) the more we study people, the more we realize how similar we can be. In fact, it's overwhelming how similarly differen(t) people tend to think, feel and behave under the same conditions.
