1. If I see this as an opportunity where I have a chance to explain and expand, I’m going to interact differently with you. So, spontaneous speaking situations are ones that afford you opportunities.
2. It reduces the cognitive load of figuring out what you’re saying and how you’re going to say it. It means that we have within our ability the tools and the approaches to help us in spontaneous speaking situations. Give gifts. By that I mean, see your interactions as ones of opportunity, not challenges.
3. And I would love to entertain any questions that you have. Uh…if you have a question, the microphone will come and I’m happy to answer it.
4. I recommend identifying certain themes that you think are important. You just have ideas and themes and then you put them together as necessary.
5. So, what’s critical about understanding this is that we’re gonna use the fact that your mind is either working for you for excitement or against you with fear to your advantage. You may have heard the advice, ‘Oh, just try to calm down, think positive thought.’ It doesn’t work, does it?’ And there is a reason why it doesn’t work.
6. Three types of fear. And those types of fear are usually oriented towards, like, loss. Like, I’m scared imna lose …you know, my identity. Or I’m scared imna lose my job, or imna lose money, or imna lose something.
7. The fear of rejection. It's terrifying for people. Because you were scared doing that thing, you were scared doing that fully thing, jumping in that goal, that dream. Somebody might say something to you. They might hate on you on the Internet. Even though you knew those risks were really the next right actions of integrity for you. Well, for a lot of people, that’s scary.
8. It wasn't so much that I want to thoroughly explore the countries themselves, this has been done. It was more that I wanted to thoroughly explore one aspect of myself set against the backdrop of each country, in a place that has traditionally done that one thing very well. I wanted to explore the art of pleasure in Italy, the art of devotion in India and, in Indonesia, the art of balancing the two.
9. It’s sold over ten million copies and was adapted into a twenty ten film directed by Ryan Murphy and starring Julia Roberts.
10. There’s even a twenty sixteen essay collection, called ‘Eat Pray Love’ made me do it,’ filled with stories of people inspired by the book.
11. These technologies have the potential to reach millions of people with interventions that could save their lives. That's pretty amazing.
12. My research lab at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, here in Seattle, is conducting randomized clinical trials to see if showing people how to be willing to have their cravings is effective for quitting smoking.
13. And in my research employers who were paid for their performance spent increasingly less time interacting with friends and family and more and more time interacting with colleagues and clients.
